Eyes closed

I close my eyes and feel the sun, when they open again I’m somewhere else.

A train makes the tracks rattle while a jazzy tune fills my ears and the smell of food welcomes me.

I close my eyes and take it all in, when they open again I’m somewhere else.

The air is buzzing and people walk by, filled with excitement. Lights flash as people make their way to evening entertainment.

I close my eyes hoping to take a mental picture, when they open again I’m somewhere else.

A field lined by trees, dogs running round, children playing. I listen to what a friend is saying and close my eyes before endeavouring in a sip of coffee.

When they open again I’ve lost it all.

For a second I was back with the people and places I choose to call home. Weeks can pass and I’ll be fine, but every once in a while I close my eyes and need to feel their warmth and welcome. I choose them as my home, they’re my sweet escape.

I close my eyes and take it all in, when they open again I feel better.

Knowing taht they’re just a call away and we are priorities for each other to see whe all of this is over. So I close my eyes again and I’m fully back in the moment. Untill I need a moment to escape once more.
